Romanian & Serbian Cultural Delegations Visit Shenzhen University

      On the afternoon of March 27, Romanian & Serbian cultural delegations arrived at Shenzhen University (SZU) for an exchange visit. Prof. Tao Yitao, vice-secretary of CPC committee of SZU, secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission of SZU, director of the China Center for Special Economic Zone Research (CCSEZR), and head of the Belt and Road Research Institute (Shenzhen) for International Cooperation and Development (BRRIICD), held a symposium with the delegations at Room 201 of the Office Building. Also present at the symposium were Prof. Yuan Yiming, deputy director of the CCSEZR and associate professor Peng Xiaogang, deputy director of the Department of International Exchange and Cooperation, SZU, among others.
      Prof. Tao Yitao provided a brief overview of Shenzhen University and the development history of CCSEZR, SZU, a key research base for humanities and social sciences under the Ministry of Education. 鈥淭he CCSEZR was founded in 2001 with five sub-institutes, namely, the Institute of Special Economic Zones (SEZs), Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao, Institute of Population and Resources Economics, Institute of Capital Market, Institute of Human Capital and Social Security, and Institute of Innovation and Industrial Development. The CCSEZR has set up master, doctoral, and post-doctoral research stations of Theoretical Economics and attracted high-caliber talents including experts for the special government allowance of the State Council and chief experts of major projects of the National Social Science Foundation. Since its foundation, the CCSEZR has yielded a variety of distinctive research achievements at a high level: hosting academic forums and conferences with influence at home and abroad, such as China Special Economic Zone Forum and World Special Economic Zones Development Forum, an event that attracted over 200 distinguished scholars in China and from abroad; publishing The Annual Report on the Development of China鈥檚 Special Economic Zones (Bluebook) and bilingual Chinese-English version of the Studies on China鈥檚 Special Economic Zones (Collected Papers); and developing academic ties with international scientific research institutes and universities, including the signing of the Agreement on the Cooperation of Party and Governmental Cadres with Vietnam and a cooperation agreement with Cambodian Institute for Strategic Studies.鈥 Prof. Tao Yitao also gave a brief introduction of the BRRIICD to the visitors. The BRRIICD is a non-governmental think tank co-founded by SZU and Shenzhen Jinglan investment (Group) Co., Ltd. The company also provided SZU with an investment of RMB 120 million in the construction of 鈥淲u Yuzhang Building鈥 at Houhai campus of Shenzhen University. The BRRIICD has launched a number of projects, including the Belt and Road Scholarships (BRS), the Belt and Road League for Entrepreneurs (BRLE), and the Belt and Road Overseas College (BROC). Prof. Tao Yitao noted that SZU was looking forward to future exchanges and cooperation with Romanian and Serbian educational experts on the development of scientific research and humanistic education in the countries along the Belt and Road Initiative. The assistant to Serbia鈥檚 Minister of Economy, one of the delegates from Romania and Serbia, expressed his strong interests in the research achievements of the CCSEZR and BRRIICD and a desire to seek more opportunities to expand and intensify the exchanges and cooperation with China. Later, the heads of four universities in Romania and Serbia illustrated the distinctive features and discipline advantages of their respective universities with PowerPoint presentations and expressed their readiness to work with SZU on various projects.
